About This Video
Welcome to the first session of the Broche Ballet 2025 Cohort for Beginner Pointe. This 44-minute technical class is meticulously designed for dancers who are just beginning their journey en pointe. Transitioning into pointe shoes requires a deep understanding of foot mechanics and body alignment, and this lesson provides the essential foundations to ensure a safe and successful progression.
The class focuses heavily on the mechanics of the foot within the shoe. You will learn the importance of proper shoe fitting and how to identify if your box provides the correct support. Our instructor guides you through exercises at the barre to master the demi-pointe position, focusing on how to place the toes against the box without knuckling. By practicing articulation through every plié and relevé, you will build the specific muscle memory needed to support your weight en pointe.
Throughout the lesson, we cover key movements including work in parallel and first position, as well as transitions like enveloppé and temps lié. We place a high priority on postural alignment, ensuring that your weight is centered and your turnout is supported from the hip even when working à la seconde. Safety is paramount in beginner pointe work; therefore, the instructor addresses common concerns such as Achilles tendon strain and foot discomfort, helping you distinguish between necessary strengthening and potential injury.
We conclude this session with a restorative segment featuring specific stretches for the feet, ankles, and calves. This ensures that you leave the barre with relaxed muscles and a clear plan for your ongoing training. Whether you are brand new to pointe or returning to the basics to refine your technique, this Broche Ballet class provides the professional guidance necessary to excel.
