About This Video
Welcome to the second session of the Broche Ballet 2025 Cohort, specifically designed for those beginning their journey en pointe. This 46-minute class focuses on the essential foundations of pointe work, moving beyond just standing to understanding how the body moves while supported by the shoe. We begin by practicing the art of walking in pointe shoes, a fundamental skill that requires precise ankle alignment and a strong sense of turnout.
Our instructor guides you through barre exercises including tendu and demi-plié, specifically adapted to help you work against the resistance of the shank and box. Throughout the lesson, we emphasize the importance of proper breathing and relaxation, which are often overlooked by beginners but are vital for maintaining stamina and preventing unnecessary muscle tension. A significant portion of this class is dedicated to foot health and maintenance.
You will learn the criss-cross stretch and various calf stretches designed to keep the Achilles tendon and shins healthy while helping to break in your new shoes. We discuss how to identify common aches and pains, helping you distinguish between the normal fatigue of building strength and the "niggles" that might indicate a shoe fit or technique issue. By alternating between being up on the box and working through the feet on the floor, you will steadily build the stamina required for longer sequences.
Safety is our priority at Broche Ballet, so we also focus on the correct way to roll down from pointe to protect the joints. Whether you are breaking in your first pair of shoes or looking to refine your basic technique, this class provides the professional guidance needed to progress safely.
