About This Video
Welcome to Class #4 of our 2025 cohort series, a specialized 40-minute session focused on foundational pointe work. At Broche Ballet, we believe that a strong start in pointe shoes requires a deep understanding of alignment and control. This class is meticulously designed to guide you through the essential mechanics of dancing en pointe, with a heavy emphasis on the sous-sous movement. You will learn how to transition seamlessly from a demi-plié into a sharp relevé, ensuring your weight is centered and your heels are pulled together for maximum stability.
Beyond basic steps, this class dives into the critical aspects of foot and ankle health. We explore specific stretching techniques tailored for the pointe dancer, including rolling the ankles to the edge of the shoe and using the barre to achieve a deep calf stretch in a demi-plié position. These exercises are vital for building the ankle mobility and strength necessary to maintain proper lines and prevent injury. We also address the 'snow plow' technique and parallel movements to ensure a comprehensive warm-up and cool-down.
Proper pointe shoe care is also a highlight of this session. Understanding how your shoes interact with your feet—and how to manipulate them for better support—is a skill every beginner must master. Our instructor provides hands-on demonstrations and feedback to help you keep your toes relaxed while stretching the top of the foot. By focusing on these technical nuances, you will build the confidence needed to progress in your ballet training. Remember, pointe work is a rigorous discipline; always ensure you have teacher approval before beginning your journey en pointe to ensure your safety and longevity in dance.
