About This Video
Welcome to Class #15 of the Broche Ballet 2025 Cohort, a session specifically designed to help beginner students bridge the gap between basic positions and fluid movement. This 48-minute class focuses on the technical precision required for safe and beautiful pointe work, with a heavy emphasis on foot articulation and ankle stability. We start our practice at the barre with a series of exercises including demi-plié, tendu, and grand plié.
These movements are not just warm-ups; they are opportunities to check your alignment and ensure your weight is placed correctly over the arches. By consciously pressing through the center of the foot and the front edge of the ankle during ton lié and fondu, you build the stability needed for more advanced center work. A key technical focus in this lesson is the 'roll-up' technique.
Mastering this requires reaching your highest possible demi-pointe before the shoe's shank begins to provide support. This method is essential for developing the intrinsic strength of the feet. We also delve into the mechanics of the échappé, where you will learn to coordinate the simultaneous bending of the knees and toes.
This coordination is the secret to avoiding getting 'stuck' on the box and ensures a smooth, controlled transition. As we move away from the barre, the class introduces center-style combinations such as scoop passé, tombé pas de bourrée, and dainty 'flutter' pas de bourrée movements. The instructor provides detailed cues on how to roll over the top of the shoe during weight changes to maintain a pointed foot through every transition.
Finally, we bring artistry into our technical practice with a lyrical 'swan leg' combination and bourrées, focusing on the seamless blend of strength and classical phrasing. Whether you are just starting your journey en pointe or looking to refine your foundations, this class offers the detailed instruction necessary to progress safely. Join us at Broche Ballet as we work toward mastery, one step at a time.
