About This Video
Warming up for pointe work is a critical step in any dancer’s routine, ensuring that the feet, ankles, and core are fully prepared for the demands of dancing en pointe. At Broche Ballet, we understand that sometimes you only have a few minutes to get ready before center work or a full class begins. This "Fast 5" session offers a whimsical yet highly effective 5-minute Oompa Loompa-themed pointe warmup designed to maximize your time at the barre.
The routine begins with foundational pliés and front-facing movements to establish your center and activate the calves. We then progress into a renversé sequence in first position. Here, the focus is on maintaining proper turnout and control through the hips and ankles.
As we move into prances, we transition from turned-out positions to parallel, a vital exercise for building the intrinsic foot strength required for stable relevés. To further articulate the feet, this class includes dedicated flexion and ankle circles. You will work through tendu movements and "duplex" exercises that challenge your articulation.
The warmup also incorporates "wheel" movements and plié roll-ups in first position, which are excellent for finding your vertical alignment and testing your balance before moving away from the barre. As we reach the peak of the warmup, you will perform tombé and tendu combinations, leading into sus-sous exercises. These exercises specifically target the leg lifts and rolls needed for fluid pointe transitions.
Finally, we conclude with passé over exercises, ensuring your knees are high and your toes are fully pointed. This short but comprehensive routine is perfect for the busy dancer who wants a fun, energetic start to their practice.
