About This Video
Start your day with grace and fluidity with this "Fast 5" morning routine from Broche Ballet. Designed for dancers of all levels, this follow-along session is the perfect way to wake up your muscles, find your center, and prepare your body for the day ahead. Whether you are prepping for a full ballet class or simply looking for a mindful movement break, these five minutes will help you feel refreshed and aligned.
The session begins with gentle demi-pliés combined with side stretches to open up the ribs and lengthen the spine. By incorporating breath into these initial movements, you establish a connection between mind and body that is crucial for ballet technique. We then move into a sequence of pliés and relevés in various positions to activate the core and build stability in the ankles and calves.
These fundamental exercises are essential for establishing the strength and balance needed for more complex movements later in your practice. As the beautiful accompanying music swells, we transition into grand pliés. This deeper bending of the knees helps to fully engage the large muscle groups of the legs and hips, increasing blood flow and flexibility.
Throughout the routine, we emphasize the importance of port de bras, or the carriage of the arms. You will work on moving through different arm positions with fluidity and control, ensuring that your upper body remains as expressive and strong as your lower body. To wrap up this feel-good warmup, we move into a relaxation segment.
By turning in the legs and taking a gentle dive forward, you can safely release tension in the hamstrings and lower back. We conclude with head drops and sways to alleviate any lingering stiffness in the neck and shoulders, followed by an overhead stretch to fully loosen the upper body.
