About This Video
Welcome to a high-energy, "super sweaty" session at Broche Ballet designed for those who want to spend more time moving and less time listening to instructions. Our Speed Barre is specifically tailored for intermediate to advanced dancers who have a solid grasp of the basics and are ready to push their stamina and muscle memory. This class moves at a brisk pace, challenging your ability to maintain proper alignment and turnout while transitioning quickly between combinations.
Throughout the 34-minute session, we dive deep into essential barre work with a focus on precision and detail. You will work through intricate fondu adagio sequences that demand extreme control and a "melting" quality of movement. By practicing these slow, controlled extensions, you build the foundational strength required for complex center work.
We also incorporate sharp frappé exercises to improve your footwork speed and coordination, ensuring your lower body remains responsive and energetic. One of the unique aspects of this Speed Barre is the emphasis on mental focus and breathing. When the pace picks up, it is easy to hold tension in the shoulders or forget to breathe.
Our instructor guides you through relaxation techniques that help you find calmness amidst the intensity. You will learn to use your breath to power through développé movements and find stability in sous-sus and retiré positions. By focusing on the transition between movements, such as the shift from a retiré to an extension, you develop the muscular coordination necessary for allegro and grand pirouettes.
The Speed Barre format simulates the continuous flow of a professional company class, where the focus is on maintaining high performance levels throughout the entire duration of the barre. We pay special attention to the placement of the standing leg, ensuring that your weight is properly distributed over the ball of the foot in demi-pointe. This attention to detail, combined with the aerobic challenge of the class, makes it an essential tool for any serious dancer's training regimen.
At Broche Ballet, we believe that ballet should be as enjoyable as it is challenging. This light-hearted class encourages you to find the joy in the movement, even as you work up a sweat.
