About This Video
Welcome to a dynamic practice session designed to infuse joy and creativity into your pointe training. At Broche Ballet, we believe that technical excellence doesn't have to be rigid to be effective. This 12-minute practice session, inspired by our "Fabulous 15" series, focuses on building the essential strength, articulation, and coordination required for fluid and confident movement while en pointe. This class is designed to step away from traditional barre structures to focus on the functional mechanics of the feet and ankles.
We begin with a deep dive into foot articulation. You will practice rolling through the demi-pointe and pressing through the floor, which is a crucial skill for achieving a secure rise and a graceful descent. By focusing on the transition between plié and relevé, you will develop the intrinsic foot strength needed to support your body weight en pointe with total control. These foundational movements ensure that every step you take is supported by a strong, flexible arch.
As the session progresses, we explore weight shifts and rapid transitions between first, fourth, and fifth positions. These exercises are specifically designed to improve your proprioception and ensure your weight is perfectly centered over the box of your pointe shoes. You will also work through rhythmic foot pickups and pas de bourrée sequences that challenge your musicality and coordination while keeping the movement light and playful. To prepare for center work and more advanced allegro, we incorporate turning drills and single-leg relevé preparations that build immense ankle stability.
One of the unique highlights of this practice is the series of floor-dragging ronds de jambe. These functional movements act as a dynamic stretch for the ankles, increasing your range of motion and helping you achieve a more aesthetically pleasing line en pointe. Whether you are practicing in a home studio or a professional space, these drills offer a refreshing alternative to your daily routine, leaving you feeling grounded and ready for your next ballet challenge.
