About This Video
Moving from the barre to the center is one of the most exciting and challenging milestones for any adult ballet student. In this 13-minute follow-along class from Broche Ballet, we focus on grounding your technique through fundamental center work. This session is designed specifically for beginners who want to build the strength and confidence required to dance without the support of the barre.
Throughout the class, we explore essential movements including demi-plié, tendu, and rond de jambe. A primary focus is placed on maintaining stability and vertical alignment. When we step into the center, we must rely on our core and proper hip placement to find our balance.
You will learn how to press down through the floor with your legs to create a solid foundation for every movement. The instructor guides you through exercises that emphasize turnout and hip alignment. We pay close attention to the positioning of the heel during demi-plié and relevé, ensuring that the weight is distributed correctly across the foot.
As you move through passé and petit développé, you will focus on keeping the working knee back and the glutes engaged to maintain a beautiful line. In addition to footwork, this class introduces arm coordination. Learning to move your arms in harmony with your legs—whether in tendu or fourth position—is key to achieving a professional ballet aesthetic.
We also practice moving across the floor, helping you transition your stationary skills into fluid dance movements. Whether you are practicing at home or in a studio, this beginner center class provides the structure you need to improve your technique. By focusing on the small details—like keeping your arm straight to the side and pushing your hips forward during a brush—you will build the muscle memory necessary for more advanced ballet training.
