About This Video
Welcome to Broche Ballet’s "Beyond Beginner" series. This 36-minute class is specifically designed for dancers ready to bridge the gap between foundational barre exercises and the independence of center work. Transitioning from two hands to one hand on the barre is a pivotal moment in any dancer's pointe journey, requiring a significant shift in both mindset and physical engagement.
Throughout this session, we emphasize the concept of moving "up and out" to find your center. Instead of relying on the barre for balance, you will learn to use it as a tool for resistance, pushing down to find vertical alignment and core stability. The curriculum starts with essential warm-ups like prances and relevés in first position, progressing into sous-sus and coup de pied to test your weight placement and ankle strength.
As we move into more complex technical movements, such as détournée and échappé, the focus shifts to the coordination of port de bras. Learning how to move your arms fluidly while maintaining a secure position en pointe is essential for providing the lift and power necessary for future center work. We will also explore "center-style" barre exercises, incorporating piqué, pas de bourrée, and cambré.
These sequences are designed to mimic the flow of center combinations while still providing the safety of a light barre assist. By focusing on independent stability and refined weight transfers, you will build the confidence needed to eventually step away from the barre entirely. Whether you are working on the precision of a dégagé or the control of a fondu, this class provides the technical breakdown to ensure you are dancing with strength and grace.
