About This Video
Welcome to Class #7 of the Broche Ballet 16-week Beginner Pointe Program. This session is a pivotal milestone in your training, shifting the focus toward the strength and control necessary for piqué movements. Piqué, meaning "to prick," requires a dancer to step directly onto a straight leg en pointe, a skill that demands both courage and exceptional foot stability.
Throughout this 56-minute class, we utilize the barre to isolate and strengthen the intrinsic muscles of the feet. We start with fundamental exercises like tendu and pas de cheval to articulate the toes and warm up the ankles. From there, we transition into fondu, which is essential for developing the "melting" quality and the power needed to push off the floor into a relevé.
By focusing on these preparatory movements, you will build the foundation required to take your full body weight onto a single foot with confidence. Stamina is another core component of this lesson. As you progress through the Beginner Pointe series, the sequences become longer and more demanding.
We incorporate échappé and repeated relevés to challenge your endurance while maintaining proper alignment. The instructor provides detailed cues on ankle placement and "beautiful feet," ensuring that even as you fatigue, your technique remains sharp and safe. To balance the intensity of the workout, this class also includes dedicated segments for stretching and releasing tension in the feet.
At Broche Ballet, we believe that longevity in dance comes from a balance of strength and flexibility. Whether you are working toward your first piqué sous-sus or looking to refine your stability on one leg, this class provides the technical breakdown and physical challenge needed to elevate your practice.
