About This Video
Welcome to Class #4 of the 2025 Cohort at Broche Ballet. This 42-minute session is a cornerstone for any adult dancer beginning their journey into pointe work. We dive deep into the mechanics of the foot and ankle, ensuring that every rise and lower is executed with precision and safety.
The transition to pointe shoes is a significant milestone, and this class is designed to build the necessary strength and technical foundation to support that transition. Starting at the barre, we focus on fundamental building blocks like the plié and the tendu. These exercises are the preparation for the power and control required to dance en pointe.
You will work through a series of relevé patterns that emphasize rolling through the demi-pointe, a critical skill for controlling the descent and avoiding injury. The instructor provides clear cues on maintaining proper alignment in first position and parallel, helping you find your vertical axis. As we progress, we move into more complex stability exercises.
Working in sus-sous, you will learn to find your balance and engage your core to take the pressure off your toes. This class highlights the importance of staying lifted and finding your center before a controlled return to the floor. We also discuss the value of using visual feedback, such as a mirror or a video recording, to monitor your technique—a practice highly recommended for remote learners at Broche Ballet.
Safety is our priority, which is why this class includes a dedicated section on foot care and recovery. Dancing en pointe puts unique stress on the body, so we guide you through specific stretches for the calves and the tops of the feet. We also emphasize the necessity of taking breaks and listening to your body to prevent overuse injuries.
By the end of this session, you will have a better understanding of how to work correctly in your shoes, building the strength needed for more advanced work.
