About This Video
Elevate your ballet technique and increase your range of motion with our Extensions Conditioning and Follow-Along Barre Stretches class. At Broche Ballet, we understand that achieving high, effortless extensions requires a combination of both active strength and passive flexibility. This 24-minute focused session is designed to bridge that gap, providing you with a series of targeted exercises and deep stretches performed at the barre.
Throughout the class, we delve into the mechanics of leg extensions, focusing on how to properly support the weight of the leg through the core and standing side. You will practice specific drills that involve holding the leg with one or both hands, allowing you to find the correct alignment and engagement. We explore the benefits of working with a flexed foot to deeply target the calf muscles and hamstrings, providing a different sensation and functional benefit compared to working exclusively en pointe.
In addition to active conditioning, this class features a comprehensive follow-along barre stretch routine. We utilize the barre as a tool for stability and deeper leverage, helping you reach those tricky areas in the hips and lower back. You will practice movements such as the demi-plié to find fluid transitions and better depth in your stretches.
Beyond the legs, we address total body awareness by incorporating stretches for the shoulders, fingers, and chest. Proper recovery is just as vital as the work itself. This session includes dedicated time for relaxation and stress relief.
You will be guided through gentle rocking motions and hanging stretches, such as grabbing opposite elbows to let the head hang heavy, releasing tension in the spine. By focusing on breath and lung expansion, you will learn how to use oxygen to further relax the muscles and maximize the effectiveness of every stretch. Whether you are looking to improve your développé or simply want a thorough post-practice cool down, this class offers the tools you need to succeed.
