About This Video
Get ready to bring some whimsical energy to your pointe shoes with Broche Ballet! This special practice session focuses on a fun, character-inspired routine set to the iconic 'Oompa Loompa' theme. Whether you are preparing for a Halloween performance or simply want to spice up your home practice, this 24-minute class offers a unique blend of technical precision and playful artistry.
We begin with a condensed, five-minute warmup designed specifically to prepare your feet and ankles for the demands of pointe work. Proper alignment in plié and strength in your relevé are essential before we transition into the main choreography. Once we are warmed up, the instructor breaks down the sequence, which incorporates classic ballet steps such as tombé, pas de bourrée, piqué, and tendu.
The true challenge of this class lies in its focus on timing and coordination. The 'Oompa Loompa' routine is deceptively tricky, requiring dancers to maintain their placement while navigating quick weight shifts. To take your training to the next level, we introduce a 'duet' challenge.
Here, you will practice the routine in a canon style—where one dancer starts a count early and the other a count late. This exercise is fantastic for developing independent musicality, as you must stay true to your own tempo even while seeing another dancer perform the movements on a different beat. Throughout the video, the Broche Ballet team emphasizes the importance of communication and spatial awareness.
Dancing with a partner, even virtually, requires a keen sense of how your movements interact with others. By the end of this high-energy session, you will not only have a fun new piece of choreography in your repertoire but also a sharper sense of rhythm and better control over your pointe shoes. Be sure to have your water bottle handy, as this energetic routine is sure to get your heart rate up!
