About This Video
Achieving a perfect line en pointe is a significant milestone for any dancer, but 'getting over the box' remains one of the most common technical hurdles. At Broche Ballet, we believe that mastering this element requires a dedicated blend of flexibility and functional strength. This specialized class, led by Julie, focuses on the mechanics of the foot within the shoe, providing you with the tools to find your center and improve your articulation.
The class begins with foundational deep criss-cross stretches designed to target the top of the foot and the front of the ankle, preparing the body for the demands of pointe work. Following the warm-up, you will engage in a series of demi-pliés and controlled rolls to the box. A primary focus of this lesson is the active use of the toes; Julie emphasizes the importance of pushing into the back of the shoe to maintain your position over the platform.
This is especially helpful for dancers with shorter toes who may struggle to find leverage. We also dive deep into tendu exercises, where the focus shifts to weight distribution. You will learn how to keep 100% of your weight over the big toe, ensuring the ankle stays forward and aligned rather than falling behind the foot.
By practicing how to press past the box while keeping the entire platform on the ground, you develop the muscle memory needed for consistent stability. To conclude the session, we use plié relevés in first position to neutralize the ankles and return them to a relaxed, stable state. This holistic approach ensures that you not only improve your aesthetic line but also build the structural integrity required for safe and beautiful ballet performance.
