About This Video
Welcome to a restorative and mindful session at Broche Ballet. After the excitement and physical toll of travel—inspired by a recent Swan Lake trip—this 44-minute Slow & Gentle Ballet Barre is the perfect way to return to your practice. This class is specifically designed to help dancers reconnect with their center while prioritizing hip health and joint longevity.
Instead of pushing for maximum extension, we focus on the integrity of the movement and the precision of our dance technique. The class begins with a series of warm-ups, including plié and tendu, designed to wake up the muscles gradually. We then move into more complex movements like dégagé and adagio.
A key theme of this session is the power of choice. As an intermediate or advanced dancer, you are encouraged to select different heights for your legs during repetitions. This practice of making intentional decisions about your movement—whether performing a développé or a controlled arabesque—fosters a deeper sense of autonomy and artistry.
It transforms a standard exercise into a personal performance. Proper alignment remains the cornerstone of this practice. We pay close attention to the transition through sous-sus and the grace required in a tombé.
The instructor guides you through each side of the barre, ensuring a balanced workout that emphasizes control over speed. We also explore the beauty of the cambré, using it to find breath and space in the upper body. The music for this class is particularly engaging, featuring a beautiful build-up that encourages a sense of drama.
By learning to pause and breathe with the phrasing, you will enhance your musicality and find more joy in the process of learning. Whether you are recovering from a trip or simply need a day to focus on slow, deliberate placement, this Broche Ballet session provides the perfect environment to refine your skills safely and effectively.
