About This Video
Welcome to the first session of the Broche Ballet Winter 2024 Beginner Pointe Cohort. This 47-minute introductory class is designed to set a solid foundation for your journey en pointe. Transitioning from flat shoes to pointe shoes is a significant milestone for any dancer, requiring not just physical strength but a deep understanding of foot mechanics and alignment.
In Class #1, we begin with the basics: how to properly put on your shoes and prepare your feet. We discuss the importance of wearing appropriate padding to prevent blisters and ensure a snug, safe fit. From there, the instructor guides you through essential alignment principles.
Maintaining a straight ankle and avoiding the sickling of the foot is critical for both safety and aesthetic line. You will learn how to engage your calves and core to support your weight effectively. The technical portion of the class focuses on foundational movements adapted for pointe work.
We explore the tendu and cou-de-pied, emphasizing the transition from the floor to the tip of the shoe. Throughout these exercises, we maintain a focus on the demi-pointe and the control required to roll through the foot. You will also practice simple pliés and relevés at the barre to build the necessary ankle stability.
Recovery is just as important as the work itself. This class concludes with a series of targeted stretches for the feet and calves. We demonstrate how to use your back leg as leverage to deepen the stretch safely, ensuring your muscles remain long and supple after the intensity of pointe work.
Whether you are a dedicated adult hobbyist or a student aiming for professional standards, this class provides the technical clarity needed to succeed in your first 16 weeks en pointe. Join Broche Ballet today and start your journey with confidence and correct technique.
