About This Video
Welcome to the second installment of Broche Ballet’s comprehensive 16-week Beginner Pointe program. In this session, we transition from initial shoe preparation into the foundational technical work required for safe and beautiful pointe work. The primary focus of Class #2 is achieving proper ankle alignment while in first position—a critical skill for any dancer beginning their journey en pointe.
Throughout this 48-minute class, we dive deep into the mechanics of the foot and ankle. You will learn how to properly execute a tendu to the back to effectively stretch the front of the ankle and the arch. We emphasize the "press and push" technique: pressing down through the back foot while using that grounding force to push the ankle forward into the desired line.
This ensures that you are not just reaching, but actively lengthening the muscles and tendons necessary for a strong pointe. The lesson also covers the nuances of ankle rotation and swiveling. By understanding how the heel should remain down toward the ground during specific stretches, you can avoid common injuries and develop the correct muscle memory for more advanced movements.
We practice these exercises on both feet to ensure symmetrical development and flexibility. Our instructor provides detailed feedback on how to set up each stretch correctly, emphasizing that the setup is just as important as the movement itself. By incorporating these focused stretches into your daily practice, you will see a marked improvement in your turnout and overall foot articulation.
To wrap up the session, we integrate these movements with music, allowing you to find grace and flow within the technical demands of beginner pointe work. Join us at Broche Ballet as we build your technique and confidence, one step at a time.
