About This Video
Welcome to Class 12 of our Beginner Pointe series at Broche Ballet. This session is designed to bridge the gap between basic positions and the fluid, energetic movements that define professional pointe work. We focus heavily on the mechanics of the sous-sus and the delicate yet powerful execution of bourrées.
In this class, we dive deep into the "scooping" action of a sous-sus. Instead of simply stepping onto pointe, you will learn how to pull the feet together underneath your center of gravity. This scooping motion is essential for stability and aesthetic alignment, ensuring you remain securely over your box while maintaining a tight fifth position.
We explore the difference between a standard relevé and the gathered energy required for a proper sous-sus. Next, we transition into bourrées. Many beginner students struggle with the "vibration" look of this step.
Our instructor breaks down the movement, explaining how to use the top of the legs—the hips and knees—to initiate the quick, tiny steps. You will learn how to combine ankle flexion with leg vibration to create a smooth, traveling movement that looks effortless. By focusing on the speed and rhythm of the legs, you will begin to feel the natural "flutter" that makes bourrées so captivating.
Throughout the class, we emphasize strength and stamina. Dancing en pointe requires significant muscular endurance, especially in the intrinsic muscles of the feet and the stabilizers of the ankles. We provide constant feedback on your alignment, helping you avoid common pitfalls like sickling or knuckling.
Whether you are following along with our Summer Cohort or catching up on your own time, this lesson provides the technical foundations necessary for any aspiring ballerina. Join Broche Ballet as we refine your technique and build the confidence needed to dance beautifully en pointe.
