About This Video
Refine your lines and build the strength necessary for stunning leg height in this Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) focused class from Broche Ballet. This 20-minute session is specifically designed to help intermediate and advanced dancers improve their extensions, with a primary focus on the arabesque and à la seconde positions. By incorporating both a large exercise ball and a small Fusion ball, this class provides the resistance and instability needed to activate deep stabilizing muscles often missed in traditional barre work.
We begin with specialized rolling exercises using the small Fusion ball, designed to increase proprioception and prepare the body for the technical challenges ahead. A significant portion of this class is dedicated to mastering the mechanics of a high arabesque. You will learn the importance of wrapping under the glutes and maintaining a strong demi-pointe to find a secure and elevated position.
Your instructor will guide you through the process of properly tucking the toe and crossing the working leg to create the iconic elongated line of classical ballet. Beyond leg height, we emphasize the critical role of the upper back and core. A successful extension requires a harmonious balance between lower-body strength and upper-body poise.
We provide detailed cues on spine awareness and body alignment to ensure you are not collapsing into the lower back. Additionally, we explore breathing techniques, teaching you how to send breath into the lower belly to sustain control during even the most demanding poses. Whether you are looking to improve your rolling plank stability or want to transition through first position with more grace, this PBT session offers the anatomical insights and practical exercises needed to elevate your technique.
